HOW TO MEASURE

HOW TO MEASURE

7 simple steps to measure your kitchen

Before we start designing your dream kitchen, we need to measure your existing space. It’s actually so simple to measure (in mm) that your toddlers could do it also! Just follow these 7 steps:

  1. Get Tools and Assistance
    • Look for a measuring tape and a partner or friend (ofcourse not your toddler) to help with the measurements.
  2. Draw the Floor Plan
    • Use a blank piece of paper or graph paper for ease.
    • Draw the layout, including all windows, doors, arches, structural features, and appliances.
  3. Measure Floor to Ceiling Height
    • Start measuring from the floor to the existing bench height.
    • Then measure from the bench to the ceiling.
    • Add these measurements together for the total floor to ceiling height.
  4. Measure Window Details
    • Measure from the floor to the bottom of the window.
    • Measure the window height, including architraves, and from the top of the window to the ceiling.
    • Include the depth of the window, factoring in the architraves.
    • Write all measurements on your plan as soon as they are taken.
  5. Measure Wall Dimensions
    • Measure wall-to-wall lengths and heights.
    • Add the thickness of tiles or splashbacks when measuring an existing space.
  6. Include Appliance Dimensions
    • Measure and include the height and depth of appliances such as the fridge, oven, and microwave.
    • Measure doorways and architraves, and indicate the direction of door openings.
  7. Plumbing and Electrical Details
    • Measure and mark the positions of hot and cold taps underneath the sink.
    • Mark the waste plumbing on your plan.
    • Measure and mark all current and future power points.

Remember –

  • Write down measurements immediately to avoid forgetting.
  • If in doubt, measure twice to ensure accuracy.
